I'm not a really girly-girl. I'm kind of...tomboy-femme? Long, loooong hair, and I like makeup sometimes, but only for the colours, not for it's reputed masking qualities.

That's why I was so happy to get the Sephora catalogue in the post today. Sure, the model on the cover has great skin (and I envy her, in my hour of acne) but she's also got on three different colours of eye makeup, none of them the sedate browns and blacks that people seem to insist are the only things you should wear. Sephora sells some of the best hypo-allergenic makeup around, and for the professional quality of their products they are shockingly -cheap-. Cruelty-free to boot, and you've -gotta- love those colours.

All in all, I'm wishing every day that I'd never upgraded my ICQ. Granted, when the great Crash of '01 hit me, I didn't really have a CHOICE, but it still irks me that no matter what settings I change, idiots look me up in the ICQ directory looking for cybersex and I can no longer send files to older versions of ICQ. I don't remember setting that preference.

Not much bloggitty going on yesterday- I was working on a dress sketch or two for Guppy (And you know, looking at it now...I apologize for the massive breasts, Gup! *snickers* Told you I couldn't draw.) and writing comic scripts. We shall see. Hmmph. Now...the aforementioned problem come to bite me in the ass here.

How do you do a comic if you can't draw? Hee...whoops...

I was awoken this morning by the dulcet tones of my new cordless phone. (All told, it cost me $5, so I figured I could go for it.) As it finally penetrated my brain that yes, that was -my- phone ringing, I flung back the covers and hobbled into the living room, where the ringing promptly stopped and began to fill my voicemail.

Some minutes later, after conferring with Mari and checking my messages, something became clear-

All non-teaching positions within the Fairfax County Public School system close -today-. This means that I have my first interview tomorrow at 10 in the morning, and hopefully many more to follow. I applied for just about everything they had, so... It also means that in the course of a day, I should get callbacks from about 15 schools.

In the words of Benton Fraser-

Oh dear.

Oh dear, sweet gods.

I've done it. I've opened The Trunk.

I've had this thing for years- bought it for my 13th birthday, along with my copy of "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner". It was the first place I kept all my stuff, my herbs and books and rocks and feathers. The key stayed in my pocket constantly, because my sister was a huge hairy snoop.

After that, when the books and everything else were actually out on the shelves in my room, it became my first garb chest. It held my very first t-tunic made of unbleached muslin and a blue braided trim at the neckline, and after that my blue plaid dress, and eventually I had so much garb that we graduated to a huge freestanding wardrobe.

Now it's the Art Box. Anything I think might use for a project one day wound up in there, and I haven't opened it but once since I moved into the cottage.

It's open now. Damn there's a lot of shit in here! I'm sorting it into boxes to put on my little white craft cart. In the living room. Out in the open.

I don't know what the hell will wind up in the trunk next. Maybe I'll start collecting sex toys.

Some days, when it's sunny and I've just talked to my best friend and the music is really LOUD and GOOD and you're in love and you have friends...well...life is easy to love.

Hmmm...off the top of my head, 5 things I'm happy about that I didn't have, know or do last year.

1. I'm happy I'm Stanley's electronics shopping buddy. It's cool. Then again, Stanley himself is pretty cool. Just don't tell him I said that.

2. I have a pet with personality. Hee. He's a toe-chomper, my Tamsin. But it's nice to come home to someone that's -always- happy to see me, even if he's only happy until I let him out of his cage and he can remind me of how mean it is to leave him alone all day.

3. Comfort in my surroundings. I can walk into a mall or a restaraunt and not feel like all eyes swivel to me and think "Ooo...lookit the fat chick." Thank you, Pat. Apparently therapy was good for something.

4. The beginnings of balance. It doesn't always have to be one extreme or the other. I feel like I'm floating- and that's a good thing.

5. My loved ones are healthy and safe. And that...that's best of all.

Bought Fiona's The Golden Sword tonight, and I'm looking forward to reading it when I don't have a migraine. For one thing, learning twenty new characters and names within the first chapter is a bit daunting for me right now!

And yes, I admit it...I'll be scanning for a few things.

1) Puberty- including acne, because we discussed how teenage characters -never- have acne in books.
2) My name...hee...I can't help it. That would tickle me to death. Lori's name would be cool too.
3) Mention of cramps. Because dammit, girls in books get their period once, and then magically, it never troubles them again. Again, something we discussed.

And even if I don't find any of them, I'll still have a good book to read.

Go. Buy!

Also, it is nearly 3 in the afternoon, and while I AM dressed enough to walk to my car out by the curb and back, I am not showered and have not finished the laundry I started two days ago. Whoopsee.

I am also NOT in clothing I would consider fit for public consumption. It's the whole fat-chick-spandex pledge again. Oi.

Now, in happy news, I'm listening to Age of Electric's "Make a Pest a Pet", after only looking for it for 4 years. Whoo! HMV is the website of the gods, and this CD cost me all of $6 US.

I also ordered Matthew Good Band- "Loser Anthems: B-sides and Rareties", Travis- "Invisible Band", and David Usher's "Morning Orbit". I am a happy little music freak.

An-sceal means "The story" in Gaelic.

If my translation skills held up at all, Beothail means "Continues", also in Gaelic. So you've got the story continues. There y'go.

See touch feel or whatever else I think to put up there is generally a song lyric of some sort, in this case, Moist.

Also, I have the newest David Usher album, and it is of the good.

So sollemn. And so, so lovely in tone. David Usher would write the music to my life, if I had to choose a composer. And he would sing it in that same sweet whisper that makes me crinkle at the edges everytime I hear it. So, so pretty, and so seductively evil and shivery.

Go. Buy.

Tom? You know how things happen to us in threes? I'd like to put in a bid to cancel that third for this round.

So. Middle of July-ish, my car gets broken into and my CD;s get ripped off. I'm sure you're all familiar with the whining and grousing, so I'll spare you.

Thursday? Something like that. Someone breaks into the home of my mother and sister in Arizona, steals my sister's laptop (The only computer they have, mind you), a 150 year old bible, a bunch of my Mom's jewelry (oddly, they leave a lot of the expensive stuff and take things that my grandmother gave her, and things she wears a lot...) and nothing else. Not the TV, not the VCR's. Not the thousands of dollars worth of videos, or my sister's CD collection.

My sister has 3 dogs. None of them is particularly mean, but they don't like strangers. Lo! My sister's friend says to her "Hey, I saw Hoku out on the street this afternoon! I knew for sure it was her because she came when I called her, but then she ran off again before I could catch her." Note also that Hoku is a very distinctive looking dog.

Note that Hoku was back inside the house when they got home that night- meaning that whomeever got in, came in through a locked door, and let the dog back in before they left.

Meaning...they had a key. Meaning, the dogs -knew- them. Meaning that they took things that they knew were of great personal value, while ignoring things of a much higher -saleable- value.

Meaning, my sister's ex-boyfriend is a punk-ass little bitch who should be hung by his withered little sack in the village square. Sadly, his scrotum is far too small, and Mesa doesn't have a village square anymore. This would also be the ex who apparently hit her several times and pressured her into having sex. Sweet guy. (Also please note that sexual relations with a 14 year old aside, if I -ever- run into this boy again while I'm in Arizona, it will be a literal moment. I will fucking mow him flat with whatever automobile I happen to be in at the time. -Nobody- hits my sister.)

So yeah. I'd like to say that this equal three really rotten things dealing with theft. My stuff is gone, my sister's stuff is gone, and my Mom's stuff is gone. That's it. All pau. No more.
