"I said, 'You've got a wide-brim melon hat. Nothing could be worse than that.' But it was. It was hideous. It was yards of silk in aqua foamy green with lace and ribbons. It was Scarlet crawling back up from the dead. And as she shoved her feet into a set of matching four in heels, for lack of any better words I said: 'Someday jumbo butt-bows will be the rage, that's what my hunch is. And someday jade silk long gloves will be the power dress for corporate lunches. They brought the bellbottoms back, we said it couldn't be done, it's just a question of when. Don't trash that satin, I'm telling you girl- You'll use that dress again."

I think it must be the entire world's air of despair. Goddess...ignore the rhyme please. Everyone I know who has problems with depressive disorders is having problems with them now. Maybe it's the slide into colder weather, but I've always loved Autumn, so I don't think so. Mayb e it recent events. I don't know. but I'd like to put in a request for it to stop.

Also, not to self: No more stories by lowercasek. Very, very unhappy making, but that doesn't mean I can stop readin them once I start.

Hope everyone is well. Y'know...the three of you who I haven't pissed off too badly to read anymore.

I feel like someone borrowed my spark. Months ago. And forgot to give it back.

My head is killing me.

On the other hand, I may have done it to myself. Nap. Unplanned nap, I might add...one second I was awake, the next I was waking up after drooling on my desk.

Drive Me Crazy is kind of a dumb movie. Yay for chicks only liking guys once they've made them over in the "correct" image. Urg. How come even if I don't have a period anymore I still have all the fucking mood swings that go with it? Crap, and hot flashes. Weird shit.

I read a SN fic this afternoon. "Possibility of a World". Wow. It was one of those moments where I was reading a fic set in DC that actually WAS...not just name dropping, but a real feel for the city when it was mentioned. Not that I'm some big expert, I just live here. Kinda. Damn, I'm all suburbs chick...

Anyhow. Depressing to the nth degree.

I think I'll go play myself some Bush and David Usher. It's just one of those afternoons.

A note o some monetary importance here lovelies.

When you are on the edge of a manic day, do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, sit around in the morning watching Changing Rooms and Ground Force. You'll find yourself on the way out to the store to buy paint to redo your bookshelves, and in your shower thinking "A thin shelve 'round the top, and a rough geometric pattern in pastel greens with shell stencils..."

And maybe a plant? I could keep one alive, I could, I could!

I got Alice and Black and White and an Arthurian game that I am too lazy to get up and look up the title of right now. I got Shuffleboard Queens and Boa's Twilight and the absolute best picture ever, shaped like a heart and of a damn good looking woman and me. *snickers*

I loved spending my birthday with people I care about. Hell- this is the first time I've ever worked in a place where they -cared- it was my birthday. They made me a cake and gave me cards...it was cool. And then I got to come home and spent the night with my family, and went out for Thai food and slept next to the woman I love.

And it was a damn good day.

This is just something small, but nice. A very sweet way to continue your support, even if you've already given your money and donated blood and anything else you can think of.

It's weird...I thought yesterday at one point "I can't believe it's been a week". I know sometime down the line, I'll think "I can't believe it's been a year." and so on. It's not that I don't remember the dates...it's that they make such an indelible mark on me, I find myself almost shocked when I discover that we HAVE managed to go on. Oklahoma City, the first World Trade Centre bombing- I probably couldn't tell you the exact dates off the top of my head, but I can tell you what I was thinking and feeling for weeks after, how long it took me to get in touch with penpals in OK, or how I found out that a friend of mine had been near the WTC when it went off...weeks later. And if I stretch, I can probably tell you what I felt like, every year when the anniversary rolled around and I was amazed again at people's capacity for healing.

My eyes, my eyes! Gods above...I SO need new contacts.

Had a nice talk with my Mum- the crashes, her new assistant, the computer my sister wants to replace the one that got stolen...stuff. Sometimes I miss living close to them, living someplace where I knew how to get around, where I could run into people I knew at the grocery store...

And then I realize, day by day, that the more time I spend here in the home I've chosen, the easier it is to find my way around, and the more people I bump into while I'm doing it. The other day I gave someone directions from a place I got lost in two years ago, and it felt good to know that I've become so accustomed to the area.

This is home. I think that when I drop off clothing in the donation bin, or when I give a couple bucks at the grocery store to a local food bank, or when I'm flipping off some idiot who doesn't signal and tries to cross all 4 lanes of 495 at the last second before his exit. Warts and all, this is home.

Okay...um...AIM isn't ReesaNT anymore...I couldn't remember the password, and it sent it to the account I signed up with in Arizona...er...whoops.

I'm now ReesaQoE on AIM...

FYI...anyone who used to have me on their ICQ and still wants me there should probably request me again...I had to reinstall instead of just transferring the program over, so I lost my who contact list and everything.

I'm 14258888, and I should be home all night.

Also, AIM is ReesaNT- I'm going to download and install that one in a moment.

Point of Hopes is a great book. I'm about 35 pages in and the writing is already making me think of Lynn Flewelling. The world is so clear, and with none of the explanation cluttering the prose- you learn the society through osmosis. Wonderful story so far, and any book that hooks me this quick gets a mention. It seems to be out of print for some reason, though there's a brand new sequel out, Point of Dreams, and there are plenty of newish copies on half.com.

I have learned at least two important things today.

1- My computer flips out when I connect a PS/2 mouse and still have my touchpad enabled.

2- There's something really satisfying about packing up all the cords, bits and pieces associated with a desktop and replacing it with the relatively small silver box that is Lain. Now just have to find someplace convenient to store the 21 inch Sony monitor.

Ah. There's the third thing!

3- There -isn't- a convenient place to store a 21 inch Sony monitor!

Downloaded a bunch of stuff by Cats Laughing and the Flash Girls last night... Pretty good. Possibly, the first Magnetic Fields song I ever heard should not have been "How Fucking Romantic", but I got some others too, to see what they sound like.

For some reason, one of the Flash Girls songs I got, Banshee, lists Neil Gaiman as the artist. Heh. I don't hear him in there, and I don't think he's playing, but the thought was pretty cool anyway. What I'd really like is if someone had a recording of his readings from the Magnetic Fields gig...

Also, did I mention that -everyone- must find Deirdre Flint's album "Shuffleboard Queens"? Because I meant to, and you should. Hillarious folk music, like "The Boob Fairy" and "The Bridesmaid Dress Song" which never fail to set Mari and I to howling, and the title track, which has to be one of the best modern odes to women's friendship.

The intrepid duo Mari and Stan are letting me stay with them for a couple days while I take a class on this side of town, and after Mari left for work this morning, I was left to fix my own breakfast, wander around barefoot on the soft, soft carpet and generally amuse mysel until it's time to go.

I pulled open the fridge, looking around for something to eat, ancd eventually the freezer to cold up a Coke to take with me. In the freezer is a nice package of taoster waffles, which I thought about for a minute and then immediately decided against. "Waffles are a Sunday thing" I said to myself, and then immediately giggled. Sometimes I think I know the routine a little too well.

I'm still surrounded by the scent of an Escada perfume, stolen from a lingering hug that made me want nothing more than another 2 or 3 hours in bed. I love this scent, I love this scent ON her...and I'm sure that 50 years from now I'll be walking down the street somewhere and snap my head around, looking for the shape of my lover in the crowd.

Tomorrow I get to learn how to use the county-wide purchasing program. I don't know that I care that much, but at least it gives me solmething to do in the mornings, and gets me out of work for a few hours. Course, if they'd just give me the damn manual I'd proably learn it quicker than I will in the class. But now. This is the county. We do things the Hard Way(tm).

BTW, Tom. Tried to call again last night- glad you enjoyed your movies, sorry I missed you. I'm at Mari and Stan's for the next couple nights. I have a training class for work over here in Springfield on Monday and Tuesday mornings, so I figured I'd just stay here.

Bystander Art

First off, as a fan of comics, I love this concept. Even if I didn't have a small thing for really hopeless, angsty Highlander fic, I would love the art. As it is, this made me happy all evening.

The wholse site is really great- I'm stunned by the picture in the HL section that is nothing more than a hiking boot and some clothes left on the floor. Just the gloss of the hardwood flooring is beautiful.

A little freaky.
